How to Report a Barrier to Access

Physical Barriers

If you or someone you know encounters a physical barrier that is preventing equal access to a University building or area, please report it to us. Physical barriers are conditions in any structural environment that prevent or impede an individual with a disability from efficiently navigating the setting.

Report a Physical Barrier

Physical barriers to access can include things like:

  • Non-functioning door openers
  • Non-functioning elevators
  • Damaged curb cuts
  • Issues with accessible restrooms

To report physical barriers on any MSU Campus, complete the form at the link above to contact MSU Facilities Maintenance and the MSU Office of Civil Rights Compliance.

The appropriate university office will be informed of the report. While not all barriers can be removed immediately, the university will take appropriate steps to address your individual needs.

Information Technology Barriers

If you experience a barrier that affects your ability to access MSU websites or other online content, please contact us using this link:

  • Websites that are not compatible with screen readers
  • Videos without captions
  • Website elements that cannot be accessed via keyboard
  • Missing alternative text

Your report will be forwarded to MSU Information Technology Services and MSU Office of Civil Rights Compliance. While not all barriers can be removed immediately, the university will take appropriate steps to address your individual needs.

Contact Information

If you would prefer to discuss accessibility issues directly, the following resources may be helpful:

MSU Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) assists in determining the accommodations that are most appropriate for students with disabilities based on documentation of their disability. Students seeking accommodations in classroom instruction, testing, housing, registration, or other aspects of student life should contact DRC.

MSU Human Resources Management

MSU Human Resources Management (HRM) oversees disability-related accommodations for university employees. To start the accommodation process, employees may complete this form and submit it to the HR Generalist assigned to their unit, or at McArthur Hall Room 150.

Office of Civil Rights Compliance

The Office of Civil Rights Compliance can provide more information about your rights under university policies and relevant laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This also is where you may submit complaints of discrimination based on disability or other protected statuses.
